Multi purpose cleaner for glass, plastics & electronics. Removes shoe polish, wax & permanent ink from most surfaces. Cleans makeup brushes. Sterilizes household surfaces including phones, switches, doorknobs and office & medical equipment. Commonly used printing chemical.
Isopropyl Alcohol is a clear colourless, mobile liquid with a sweet odour. Isopropyl Alcohol is readily miscible with water and many organic solvents, including esters, ketones, and alcohols. It has good solvency properties for many natural and synthetic oils, alkaloids, gums, and resins.

  • Common name(s): Isopropanol, 2 Propanol, IPA, Petrohol, Rubbing Alcohol, Surgical Spirit, Isopropyl Alcohol Solvent
  • UN Number: 1219
  • Code: IPA

Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) Common Uses

  • Efficient glass cleaner - 35% to 50% IPA in water.
  • Rubbing alcohol - Dilute 7 parts IPA with 3 parts water. (70% Isopropyl Alcohol in water)
  • Used where Methylated Spirits is too harsh on plastics.
  • Electronics: Due to its rapid evaporation, cleans electronics including PC boards, some computer/LCD monitors, CDs/DVDs, printed circuit boards, connectors & contacts, lenses of lasers, tape heads & guitar strings.
  • Used to clean electronics or other devices that become damaged when wet.
  • Surface Coatings: IPA imparts good blush resistance in nitrocellulose lacquers.
  • IPA is often substituted for ethanol in certain lacquer formulations without causing any appreciable change in product viscosity.
  • IPA has excellent solvency for many resins and can improve resin solvent power for nitrocellulose significantly.
  • Antifreeze: Separates water from gasoline and possible freezing in cold regions may be prevented by the addition of small amounts of IPA. It is a convenient agent to feed into air and gasoline lines to prevent winter icing and is also a useful coolant in refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
  • Cosmetics: Widely used in the manufacture of cosmetics, perfumes and liquid soap formulations. Denaturant free and quite mild on the skin makes it a desired component in many body lotions, creams, deodorants and perfumes.
  • Other Uses: Preservative, a fuel in some engines, a “gas dryer” fuel additive, insecticide manufacture, dehydrating agent, adhesives, inks wetting agent.
  • Heavily used in the printing industry, One of the most common printing chemicals
  • Great for sanitising kids toys.
